The Waves Group will strive to be a total entertainment provider to the local community, by providing and maintaining sporting and recreational facilities (for the region) within a family environment.
First opened on October 19, 1968, the original club was solely utilised for social gatherings around bocce and soccer by early immigrant Italian farmers of Bundaberg and was so named 'Across The Waves', for that was how they travelled to Australia aboard The Angelino Lauro - across the waves of the Indian Ocean.
From those humble beginnings The Waves Sports Club redeveloped many times and grew in physical size, membership number, and in sub club acquisition to what is now an icon of Bundaberg with 16 sub clubs and over 52,000 members. A not-for-profit business, The Waves also leads the way in the Wide Bay/Burnett Region for community involvement and contributions, donating between $1.1M and $1.3M each year to hundreds of individuals, charities, businesses, and organisation.
Exactly 50 years after it's founding in 2018 The Waves had a momentous year, setting the bar for clubs even higher as it won six awards at the Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence, including the coveted Club of the Year award. This same year also saw the realisation of the purchase and acquisition of the new site in Caloundra come to fruition - that club became the first extension of The Waves' brand to be aptly named, The Waves Club Caloundra where exciting plans for change and growth are already well underway in early 2019.
